Hello, I am Dr. Maria Wong, a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Sunway Medical Center Velocity in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. With 23 years of experience as a medical officer and 9 years as an orthopaedic surgeon, I now practice full-time in the private sector.
Orthopaedics is a field I find rewarding because I help patients, who are usually fit and healthy but temporarily incapacitated by injuries, return to work and normal activities. My work primarily involves treating fractures and injuries in both children and adults. While adult fractures often require surgery, children’s treatments can sometimes be conservative and non-surgical.
I enjoy outdoor activities like trail marathons, gym workouts, and Pilates, which help me stay balanced and prevent injuries. It’s important to vary activities, rest, and rehabilitate properly.
