Orthopaedic Problems in Adults

Adult orthopaedic problems often stem from trauma, degenerative conditions, or repetitive strain, affecting bones, joints, and soft tissues. Common issues include general trauma and fractures, which require expert management to ensure optimal recovery and bone healing.

Lower limb reconstruction surgery, such as Ilizarov and LRS techniques, addresses bone defects from trauma or infection, length discrepancies, and leg deformities, restoring function and mobility.

In addition to trauma and reconstruction, general orthopaedic conditions like ganglion cysts, trigger finger, carpal tunnel syndrome, and tenosynovitis (including De Quervain’s and Tennis elbow) are prevalent. Osteoporosis, which weakens bones and increases fracture risk, is also a significant concern.

Effective diagnosis and treatment of these conditions aim to reduce pain, restore function, and improve quality of life.

Adult Orthopaedic Treatments

Providing expert diagnosis and treatment for various orthopaedic conditions in adults to reduce pain, restore function and improve quality of life.

Trauma & Fractures

Not all adult fractures require surgery. Some can be treated with a splint or brace, while others may need a plaster cast. However, certain fractures will need surgical intervention for the best results.

The management of adult fractures focuses on proper alignment and stabilization to prevent complications and ensure effective healing. Unlike children, adults do not have the same capacity for bone remodeling, making precise treatment crucial.

Dr. Maria Wong will review your imaging and discuss the best treatment plan for your injury, ensuring optimal recovery and function.

Lower Limb Reconstruction Surgery

Bone Defects from Trauma/Infection
Lower limb reconstruction surgery addresses bone defects resulting from trauma or infection. Using advanced techniques like Ilizarov and LRS, these procedures help restore bone integrity and function, promoting effective healing and mobility.

Length Discrepancy
For individuals with limb length discrepancies, lower limb reconstruction can correct these differences, ensuring balanced and symmetrical growth. This improves overall mobility and reduces the risk of further complications.

Leg Deformity
Leg deformities can significantly impact daily life and mobility. Through reconstructive surgery, leg deformities are corrected, enhancing limb function and alignment, and improving the patient’s quality of life.

Dr. Maria Wong specializes in these procedures, providing tailored treatment plans for optimal outcomes.

General Orthopaedics

Dr. Maria Wong specializes in diagnosing and treating a wide range of orthopaedic conditions, ensuring comprehensive care for each patient.

Ganglion Cyst
Ganglion cysts are noncancerous lumps that often develop along the tendons or joints of your wrists or hands. These cysts can cause discomfort and limit mobility, but effective treatments are available to alleviate symptoms.

Trigger Finger
Trigger finger causes one of your fingers to become stuck in a bent position. It can be painful and restrict hand function. Treatment options aim to relieve the locking and restore smooth movement.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when the median nerve is compressed, causing pain, numbness, and tingling in the hand. Effective management includes both non-surgical and surgical options to relieve pressure and restore function.

Tenosynovitis: De Quervain’s, Tennis Elbow
Tenosynovitis involves inflammation of the tendons, such as in De Quervain’s tenosynovitis and tennis elbow. These conditions cause pain and limit movement, and treatments focus on reducing inflammation and restoring tendon health.

Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis weakens bones, making them more susceptible to fractures. Comprehensive treatment plans include lifestyle changes, medication, and sometimes surgery to strengthen bones and prevent fractures.
